ANOTHER WIN FOR DAIM & ANOTHER IMPRESSIVE COMEBACK BY IVAN
Race Five of the Caterham Motorsport Championship got underway at Sepang International Circuit today with Rocky Siow trying a daring move on the outside of turn one trying to hold back Race Four winner Daim Hishammudin, and was able to make it stick.
Tan Pye Sen shot into the top three early on. Wanting to prove himself after a poor first race earlier in the day, Pye had pushed himself past Rocky and young star Daim Hishammudin for the lead. It was great seeing Pye back up the top.
After a long battle between the drivers it was Daim who took the chequered flag with Arnaud Dupuis finishing in third after an intense fight with Rocky Siow.
It was a slow start off the line from Supersport pole sitter Ivan Petev, allowing Halim to storm off into the lead. Both drivers exchanging positions several times until Ivan had a problem and dropped to 5th place at the halfway mark.
Again, there was less than 2 seconds between the top four Supersport drivers for most of the race. An enthralling battle ensued between Sidqi Ahmad, Shirendra Lawrence, Malcolm Chang and Halim Mu’Azzam. All drivers hungry for the top podium step.
Turns nine, four, three and 13 were the places where most laps it was three cars abreast. Something you don’t see often in other race series in Asia.
It didn’t take long for Ivan to cut through the field, and take the Supersport lead. As Ivan stormed off into the lead, Halim suffered a stuck throttle that made it difficult to brake. But the experienced champion was able to fend off the challenges of Shirendra, sidqi and Malcolm for half of the race until he succumbed to Shirendra Lawrence’s pass on the inside of turn 9, finishing in third place.
Speaking about his weekend, Ivan Petev was happy about his performance: “I had a great weekend fighting through the field after I had some problems in each race. But I love a challenge, and these Caterham race cars are awesome to push hard.”
